Client: Linden Shield Ltd
Product Description: An isolation valve for a Fire Safety System. The valve shuts of the gas supply in the event of a fire occurring. The valve is fail safe and closure is initiated by loss of pressure in the extinguisher system.
Critical Issue: Product was bulky, expensive to make and not designed for ease of manufacture
What we did: We (1) helped the client compile a design specification for the valve; and (2) established a design team comprising the client, a designer, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers and developed a new concept design ready for prototyping.
Outcome: The new product design has 54% fewer parts, is compact, has been designed for manufacture and can be produced for a fraction of the initial cost. A prototype has been made and successfully tested. Three international companies are interested in taking manufacturing rights.
